2012 USAF Karate Championships

On the 25th Luke participated in the USAF Karate championships. There were 267 kids this year, two parents per kid plus siblings equals one crazy day! Check-in began at 8:00 am and the tournament began at 10. We arrived at 8:30 and Luke began warming up and practicing. Luke participated in the 6 & under division green/blue/red belts. He participated as a green belt, which was the lowest ranking belt in the division. Luke did awesome! He participated in both events, the first taking place at 10:15, the second not beginning until 2:30, it was a long day. He placed 3rd in forms and 2nd in sparring. There were 100 trophies up for grabs and Karate Tech, Luke's group pictured below, took 70 of those trophies!
Here are a few of the kids in Luke's school stretching before the competition began.
Luke is on the far right waiting his opportunity to do his form. He performed Kata Tech 4 combination, he added cartwheels and extra moves to his kata.
Luke on the left with the 3rd place trophy, Colton on the right (he's in Luke's class) with the second place trophy, and the winner was from Italy's karate school.
This is Luke in the championship match of sparring. It's also important to know that Luke fought the kid who won forms in the first round of sparring and beat him. Also, because the way the bracket was put together, Luke had to fight 4 fights when everyone else in the tournament only fought 3.
This is Luke in Ben in the final match. I didn't get any photos of Luke doing forms because Micah thought it might distract him and I got a little to into the sparring and forgot to take more pics. As you can see the kid is a foot taller than Luke.
Luke receiving his 2nd place trophy.
Luke, Ben and Colton all from the same class. We are all so proud of these boys they worked so hard all year to get here.
With his finishes Luke also receives an invitation to the European National Championships later this year.
Luke and one proud dad!

After the tournament Micah, Lucas and Tucker walked across the street to the bowling alley where his basketball team was celebrating the end of their season. Luke missed his last game due to the tournament, but did get to go to the party and receive his basketball trophy. 3 trophies, one medal and one very happy little boy!
